"Jason's work displays a rare sensitivity and captures a deeply and profoundly difficult period in a person's life with compassion. If you are a veteran or an active duty soldier, sailor, airman or marine, this is a person who respects your work."

XFactor1 and Boy Hits Car at Herman’s Hideaway, Denver, Colorado 050913 by Jason Claypool

It has been so long since I discovered Boy Hits Car, and have waited and waited and waited for a tour and a Denver date. Well, my wish finally came true, and they came to town on the Taproot tour, and just tore up the Denver crowd at Herman’s Hideaway on 050913.

I emailed the band, and they were gracious enough to hook me up with a +1 after I told them I have waited so long to see them, and they seemed truly excited to have a Denver photographer catch this set. I promised I would do my best!

I have rarely seen such a polished band, with so much energy, and this ranks up there in my top 5 or 10 perfect shows! It was like a light switch; one minute, they were setting up and tuning the acoustic, and the next they were tearing into The Rebirth and then straight into As I Watched The Sun Fuck The Ocean. Then they didn’t let up for a solid hour, making sure they made their mark on Denver, even mentioning that the last time they played here was in ’93 at the Lion’s Lair. Crap, can you imagine trying to contain all this energy in that hole in the wall?

Embarrassingly, this was my first time to catch a show at Herman’s, but I am glad my friend Sean and I were there early to catch both XFactor1 and Lost Point, too, and to get a feel for the club and the lighting. Now I just need to catch Lost Point here in town, and do their shoot some justice. 24 Gigs was just enough for a few shots of XFactor1, and hundreds of Boy Hits Car. Don’t worry, Lost Point, I’m hooked. You’ll get your chance! I only own so many memory cards!

By the way, Brandon of 54 Peaks Photography, great to meet you, and let’s shoot together again!

What can I shoot for you?

Moreland and Arbuckle at the Toad Tavern, Denver, Colorado 042413 by Jason Claypool

It’s always great to see the guys when they pass through Denver. Last year, I wasn’t thrilled with the Toad Tavern’s lighting, but for some reason, the blue light really worked and Dustin had a decent spotlight on him this time. Too bad the show didn’t get hyped up more on 103.5 The Fox, but I did score the tickets from Kai Turner’s Strictly Blues radio show a few nights before, so that rocked! LeeAndra and I always have such a great time at a Moreland and Arbuckle show.

Fantastic work on the new songs, guys! The cover is going to be a great surprise for the fans, too, when the new album comes out!

What can I shoot for you? Which shots would look great on your walls?

Easter Sunrise Service 2013 at Red Rocks Amphitheater, Morrison, Colorado 031313 by Jason Claypool

What a great event! Over 11,000 turned out to what is normally a 9,000+ capacity facility for this year’s Easter Sunrise Service, and the beauty and grace of Red Rocks Amphitheater gets a bit of the credit for that. The weather was perfect with no breeze, clear moonlit skies, and a steady 30F until the sun came up. We bundled up, but there was plenty of warmth and brotherhood to go around!

It was literally standing room only, and the event staff just gave up on keeping the stairways clear. Every square inch of horizontal space was filled with a family or couple or group of friends huddled together, singing and smiling.

And catching Scramble Campbell brightening up the crowd with his painting and spirit is always a great highlight!

Thanks to a text from NASA, I was ready at 612AM to watch the ISS International Space Station cross the sky from over our shoulder behind Ship Rock and drop down to the glowing horizon right behind the stage! I tried, but the glow made it impossible to get a picture, even though I had got some great shots of the moon and stars over Creation Rock at 5AM when we got there.

Sharing that moment with LeeAndra, maybe being the only two in the crowd that knew to watch for it or noticed it, and just sharing our time together made our morning so special!

What can I shoot for you?
