America.

This may be the most important picture I have ever taken.

This mother and daughter’s presence in the crowd at the funeral of KIA Navy Hospitalman Christopher “Doc” Anderson, in Longmont, Colorado on 121606, was so touching. Their embrace seemed to reassure us all in such a sad place.

And that whisper to her daughter, maybe about why they they were there holding a flag in the cold in a parking lot for a stranger from their town- talk about patriotism and pride!

I was told later that they didn’t even speak a lick of English, but they stood among a couple thousand other strangers that day, all thankful for Hospitalman “Doc” Anderson’s sacrifice. Just a smile and a point to the camera, and Mom allowed me to capture a shot of America.

They were everything that is right about America that day.
