Hairball at the Grizzly Rock, Lakewood CO 081012
Another great show at the Grizzly Rock!
Cinderella bailed on Denver the night before, and I was supposed to grab a few promo shots of the club for a graphics company. Corey Guildner was bummed at the band’s shenanigans and the thought of having no headliner for about 800 people, but told me to come back on Friday for Hairball, a Minnesota-based cover band who I had heard just tears up the stage with some dead-on recreations of some of Rock’s key acts.
I was not disappointed, and just could not believe that artist after artist, these guys were POLISHED. I had more fun with some of their takes than with the actual artists. I could not believe the range of musicianship and vocals, and just couldn’t get over how these guys could flip a switch between each, and amp the crowd up again with a completely new act. It was almost a best-of show of performers I will never get to see, and it was a hell of a lot of fun. By the way, Electric Eye from Judas Priest with vocals even approximating Halford, and the entire set of AC/DC with dead-solid-perfect Brian Johnson vocals kept the crowd screaming for more!
Thanks, Cinderella, for making sure I caught Hairball instead of you.
The lighting at this club was just phenomenal, and these shots are going to make stellar prints on my walls. How about yours?

Sense a theme with these guys? I friggin’ love it when a band knows how to play to the camera! I went upstairs and a woman says “Oh, you’re pointing at him…I’ve been trying to get them to look up at us the whole night”. I say “Don’t worry, I’ll get it”, and not 10 seconds later, “Halford” looks up at me and points right back at my silhouetted hand! Mission accomplished, and it’s my favorite shot of the night:
Below this point, the shots are a little photo tour of the venue, ready to go for promo purposes:
