Me, My Photography, and My Experience…

Thank you for taking a look at my work, and my passions. What can I shoot for you?

My name is Jason Claypool, and I am a photographer from Denver, Colorado. A lifelong Denver resident, my wife of seven years LeeAndra and I love traveling and spending time with our dogs, Talulah and Bacon.

Style

My style matches my equipment, and I prefer to focus my skills on discreet, handheld shooting in low-light conditions with little flash, rather than invest in studio equipment. I want a candid pose or the available light to emphasize the beauty of the subject, or the energy or humor of the moment.

I love the thrill of walking away shaking from a bitterly cold and windy mountaintop, or sweaty and bruised from the crushing weight of a front row at 2AM, or holding back tears after a Fallen or Veteran soldier’s service, knowing I caught that one perfect shot that’s going up on MY wall.

I am open to your ideas, and love subjects and clients who have fun with a shoot.

My creativity, combined with yours, can yield some fantastic results.

Specialties and Experience

My specialties are concert, music, promotional and event photography, and I have been published since 2008 as a regular and contributing (now archived) writer and photographer for the Denver Post’s Reverb music review blog. My work has been used by several bands for album artwork, web, and promotional use, and was featured in the gallery at the massive 2009 Underground Music Showcase in Denver.

My commercial and published experience also includes real estate photography in association with Agent Rick Myers of Keller Williams, brochure and web work for Rotors Of The Rockies, corporate publication and profile work for a medical client with photography in clinical and surgical settings, and published articles for Colorado Country Life and Draft Horse Journal.

I am especially proud of my experience, beginning in 2006, in funeral and event photography with the Patriot Guard organization, regularly donating my time and services to the families of Fallen and Veteran members of America’s military. Honoring their sacrifices for our country with my time and effort is the most rewarding thing I have ever done.

I also have experience in youth sports photography (with a son and daughter in football and cheerleading), child candids, baptisms, engagements, portraits and senior pictures, and nature photography.

I can’t wait to build on this experience and branch out to weddings. Of course, I can be counted on as a second photographer to start, but know that I can do some amazing work to capture your or your clients’ special day.

Equipment

I currently use a Nikon D300 and love it’s low-light capabilities, in conjunction with a Nikkor 50mm/1.4. I am open to using rental lenses, depending on the specialized requirements of the shoot.

I also use a LensBaby Original, Hoya UV and Circular Polarizer filters, MB-D10 battery grip, SB-600 Speedlight flash, Lowepro Slingshot 200 AW bag, Quantaray 5-in-1 folding reflector, and an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 printer, with archival quality Epson paper and Epson Claria inks.

Process

I work in a RAW digital workflow (specifically, Nikon’s .NEF format) in Artizen HDR, use GIMP and DarkTable for processing, and deliver .jpg images in Dropbox or thumb drives. I also post my public work to Flickr and to this site, to make my work available to a variety of clients and subscribers, and friends and family.

Results

An hour-long baptism or engagement shoot might produce 10+ print-quality shots, and an additional 30+ candid-quality shots.

A real estate shoot will produce around 10 shots highlighting the property’s aesthetics.

An energetic show with several band members to focus on might produce 30+ print-quality shots, and an additional 100 web- or flyer-quality shots. By contrast, a 3-song set with a singer-songwriter seated in dark lighting conditions with no flash allowed might produce 10+ print-quality shots and an additional 20+ web or flyer-quality shots.
